The first step to transform the wedding dowry traditions is motivating betterment for most of the families, recently, set by the Minister of Religious Affairs.
The movement of banning dowry has influenced most of the people in Pakistan because it is now considered as a historic decision. Based on Islamic perspectives, the minister of Religious Affairs has stated that it is illegal for a groom to demand dowry from the bride’s family.
As the suicide rate increased due to the pressure people get through the demands of dowry from the groom’s family, has encouraged the government to think about it. Even the perception of showing off valuable gifts and expensive ensembles of brides in front of the families has been restricted.
Demanding dowry above the capacities of the bride’s family was the sinful issue that made most of the families suffered. Back in time, most of the governments came but never address this issue. Now we can hear the echo of applause on the efforts of the PTI government because for the first time they took the decision in the history to stand for change.
Asking for the girls party dresses and bridal dresses was aggressive and this culture was increasing day by day. People with a mediocre status felt burdened due to loads of demands.
Moreover, the real meaning of marriage was lost somewhere, where it is meant to spread love, unity, and peace among both families.
Taking notice of this serious issue, the minister stated that all the list of gifts will be mentioned in the “Nikah Nama”. The bride will be encouraged to take clothes and bedsheets along with her.
Respective matrimonial families must share a mutual idea of selecting the gifts from the mentioned list which will be worth keeping after the wedding. God forbid, in the case of divorce, if such a situation happens then the groom’s family needs to return all the gifts to the bride’s family.
With great hope, we are expecting to see the implementation of the dowry law as soon as possible and to encourage awareness acts. From now on we can stand against domestic violence as well that triggered most of the families to suffer.
