Things You Will Need:

  • Pencil and a poster board
  • A measuring tape
  • 1 yard of minky or cotton fabric
  • Snag-free velcro
  • Sewing machine

Let’s Begin!

1. Measure and cut the fabric, as shown below. You can use two different fabrics or the same fabric for the swaddler.

2. Measure and cut the minky fabric into two pieces; one piece of the minky fabric will be used in the main body of the swaddler and the other will be used for the box pleat. Make sure that the body piece measurements are around 12” width and 6” length.

3. Now, stitch together the minky and cotton fabric; sew the edges to unite the two pieces together. Make sure that both the fabrics are turned on their right sides. In addition, leave at least 2 inches of seam allowance while sewing.

The result should look something like the image shown below.

4. Now, create a box pleat at the top of the fabric; the pleat will make the swaddler more snugly for the baby. The pleat should not be more than 2 inches.

5. Attach the second part of the minky fabric to the main body. Only sew the bottom edge of the minky fabric with the bottom edge of the main swaddler body.
